C.S. Tip led to Fast Food Restaurant Mngr Charged w/Sexual Exploitation of Teenage Girl

          Sex Crimes detectives this afternoon charged a man, who until this week was the manager of a Hermitage fast food restaurant, with taking nude and sexually explicit photographs of a 15-year-old girl he met through the Internet.

          Todd Stasiak, 41, is jailed on two counts of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.  Stasiak has admitted to using his cell phone to take pornographic photos of the 15-year-old inside his residence at 336 Stewarts Ferry Pike.  One of the photos depicts the teenager engaged in a sex act with Stasiak. 

          During an examination of Stasiak’s cell phone, detectives discovered other explicit photos of the 15-year-old and at least one other teenager.  A forensic examination of Stasiak’s home computer is pending.

          A tip to Crime Stoppers earlier this week led to the investigation of Stasiak, who until this week managed the Arby’s restaurant at 3400 Lebanon Pike before being sent to the Arby’s in Gordonsville.  Stasiak was arrested in Gordonsville this afternoon.

          Anyone, teenagers or adults, who is aware of inappropriate interaction between Stasiak and minors is urged to contact the police department’s Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540.  Additional charges against him are anticipated.

Accused Courthouse Shooter Tyree Gray Arrested from Crime Stoppers Tip

     A tip to Crime Stoppers was given to our SWAT unit who this afternoon arrested accused courthouse shooter Tyree Gray.

     Gray was taken into custody inside an apartment in the Richland Hills Apartment complex on Maudina Avenue.

     He will be will be booked on three outstanding warrants, attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and retaliation later this afternoon.

Shoplifting Suspect Denise Colon Arrested from a Crime Stoppers Tip

          A tip to Crime Stoppers led to Thursday’s arrest of Denise Colon, 26, at a Freedom Drive residence, on outstanding warrants for her alleged involvement in three separate shoplifting incidents at the 6814 Charlotte Pike Target. 

          On September 16th, a uniformed Target loss prevention agent attempted to stop Colon as she pushed her shopping cart toward the exit without paying for the merchandise.  Colon struck the agent before fleeing the store.  She left behind a small child who was carried off by an unidentified female associate.

          Colon was also identified as the person who took merchandise, including electronics and clothing, from the same Target location on September 3rd and again on September 14th.

          Colon is charged with theft, attempted theft and assault.  She is being held in lieu of $10,500 bond.

Homicide Suspect Charzelle Swafford in Custody - Crime Stoppers Tip

          A tip to Crime Stoppers led to last night’s arrest of Charzelle Swafford, 21, who is charged with criminal homicide in Saturday afternoon’s shooting death of 20-year-old Dejuantae Moore inside an apartment at 604 Sylvan Street in the James Cayce public housing development.

          Officers assigned to the MNPD’s Special Response Team, along with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Tactical Team, took Swafford into custody without incident at a residence in Murfreesboro.

          Swafford reportedly argued with Moore, 20, on Friday night and knocked on the back door of the apartment Saturday at 12:45 p.m.  When Moore opened the door, Swafford is accused of firing multiple shots at Moore who died on the scene.  Swafford then shot Taurus Williams, 15, who ran out the front door before collapsing nearby.  Williams remains in stable condition at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. 

          Swafford allegedly ran upstairs and attempted to shoot three other teens but the gun did not fire.  Swafford, who has previous convictions for theft and drug possession, fled on foot.    

          In addition to criminal homicide, Swafford is also charged with four counts of attempted murder.  He is being held in lieu of $600,000 bond.

Crime Stoppers Tip leads to Parolee Charged with Aggravated Robbery

          A tip to Crime Stoppers led to Saturday’s arrest of parolee Timothy Waddell, 42, for the May 24th armed hold-up of Mapco at 15131 Old Hickory Boulevard.

          Waddell is accused of entering the store and robbing the clerk and a customer at gunpoint before fleeing in the customer’s car.  The stolen vehicle was located nearby on Zermatt Avenue where the suspect also lives.  Both victims identified Waddell as the robber. 

          Waddell is charged with aggravated robbery and carjacking.  He has previous convictions for aggravated burglary, cocaine possession, felony escape and theft.  Waddell is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Cocaine Fugitive Matthew Carter Arrested from a tip to Crime Stoppers

          Specialized Investigations Division detectives this afternoon arrested fugitive and accused cocaine dealer Matthew Carter, who had broken into his alleged base of operation that was boarded up and padlocked on April 27th.

          Carter, 57, had broken into the rear door of 2326 Merry Street.  He was in the home by himself when officers took him into custody.

          Carter is alleged to have dealt cocaine to police operatives out of the home on multiple occasions during April.  The residence was declared a public nuisance due to a long history of drug issues.  Recent investigations showed cocaine sales at the dwelling to be pervasive.

           A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of convicted felon Mike Bennett who is accused of using stolen credit cards at five Nolensville Pike/Thompson Lane area businesses last week a short time after the victim’s purse was taken from her car parked outside the Waffle House at 618 Harding Place.

          Bennett, 29, is accused of breaking out the victim’s passenger side window and grabbing her purse which had been left on the passenger side floor board.  He was charged last night with burglary of a motor vehicle, five counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, and three counts of theft.  Bennett is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.  He has previous convictions for kidnapping, domestic assault and child neglect.

Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Discovery of Meth Lab inside Madison Apartment

          A tip to Crime Stoppers led to last night’s discovery of a meth lab inside the Forest Park Road apartment of Henry Chamber, 50.

          Officers knocked on the apartment door and Chambers gave them permission to enter.  When questioned by a detective, Chambers admitted that he had been cooking methamphetamine nearly every day for the last three months.  The small containers Chambers had been using as “pots” and other materials used to manufacture meth were located throughout the apartment. 

          Chambers is charged with 22 counts of manufacturing methamphetamine and is being held in lieu of $1,100,000 bond.

Crime Stoppers Tip leads to arrest of Patrick Cosby

     A tip to Crime Stoppers led officers from North Precinct and members of the SWAT Units Special Response Team to an apartment in North Nashville.

     Patrick Cosby was inside the apartment and had had a Felony Probation Violation Warrant on file and was wanted for questioning regarding another incident in East Nashville.  Officers located Cosby inside apartment along with a female who had lied that Cosby was in the apartment.  Officers arrested Cosby for the warrant and charged him with three addtional warrants; Felony Drug Possession X 2 and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The female was charged with Assessory and for Resisting Arrest.

Pizza Deliveryman Robbery suspects identified by Crime Stoppers Tip

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 A Crime Stoppers tip and investigation by South Precinct detectives resulted in the identification of two men believed to be involved in robberies Friday night, including the hold-up of a pizza deliveryman outside the Arbors of Brentwood apartment complex at 100 Brentwood Place.

          The pizza deliveryman fatally shot one of the suspects, Deron Hulin, 21.  The other two gunmen fled in a car driven by Christopher Moore, 21, who was taken into custody a short time after the robberies.

          The two additional suspects are identified as Heriberto Sanchez, 19, and Ryan Ellis, 21.  Sanchez was arrested this afternoon at a home on Lincoya Bay.  During interviews he admitted his involvement in the robberies of the pizza deliveryman and two other persons earlier in the evening at the Hickory Woods Apartments at 5319 Nolensville Pike.  He is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.

Ellis, of Lori Drive, is currently in custody in Kentucky on unrelated charges.  Warrants have been issued locally charging him with two counts of aggravated robbery.

          Tolbert, 26, is charged with the November 26, 2008 shooting death of 16-year-old Christopher Evans at Riverchase Apartments on Joseph Avenue.

          Tolbert has previous convictions for domestic assault, unlawful handgun possession and resisting arrest.

           A tip from Crime Stoppers coupled with investigation by Metro Police and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force led to this morning’s arrest of serial bank robbery suspect Robert Michael Durham.

          Durham, 31, is believed to have robbed Regions Bank’s 15580 Old Hickory Boulevard branch Tuesday after attempting to rob Fifth Third Bank’s 495 Old Hickory Boulevard branch minutes earlier.  He is also the same man believed to have robbed US Bank’s 1711 Broadway branch on October 14th.

          Members of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force took Durham into custody without incident at a hotel in Athens, Alabama, at 3 a.m.  Durham, of Brentwood, has previous convictions for selling cocaine, theft, vandalism and larceny.  He will be charged federally with multiple bank robberies on Monday.

          Acting on a tip to Crime Stoppers, North Precinct Flex officers this afternoon arrested accused armed robber Kyle Fencl inside an apartment at 2400 Buena Vista Pike.  Fencl, 18, was in a rear bedroom when officers arrived and complied with their commands to surrender.  A clip loaded with nine millimeter bullets was recovered from inside the apartment.  No gun was found, however.

          Kyle Fencl and his twin brother, Korey, are accused of meeting and robbing persons who had placed advertisements for electronics on Craigslist.  Korey Fencl is presently incarcerated in the Rutherford County Jail and will be transferred to Nashville in the near future.

          Follow-up of a Crime Stoppers’ tip by Hermitage Precinct detectives led to Sunday afternoon’s arrest of a 17-year-old for the July 12th brutal robbery of a woman in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 4424 Lebanon Pike.

          Investigative work by Detectives Erid Harrison and Andrew Injaychock on Sunday led to the identification of the teen as the likely robber.  Once the 17-year-old’s family was informed that he was being sought, they surrendered him at the Hermitage Precinct where he made incriminating statements. 

          The 47-year-old victim had just placed her groceries inside her car at 1 a.m. on July 12th when the robber, believed to be the 17-year-old, ran up to her and, without provocation, began to beat her with his fists.  After the woman fell to the ground, the robber took her purse and fled in a car driven by an accomplice.  The accomplice has been identified as Joshua Belcher, 22.  The getaway car, a Pontiac Sunfire, was stolen just prior to the robbery.

          The 17-year-old is charged at Juvenile Court with robbery and auto theft.  Warrants charging Belcher with robbery, auto theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor are outstanding.  Belcher is presently believed to be out of state.

          SWAT officers assigned to the Special Response Team today arrested the man identified through Crime Stoppers’ tips as the armed robber of the Game Stop store at 2086 N. Gallatin Pike.

          Dameon Golden, 26, was taken into custody this afternoon at his home on Windsor Green Boulevard in Goodlettsville.  Seized at the residence during a search for evidence were an AR-15 rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, a Glock .357 pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

          At 10 a.m. last Thursday, a robber entered the Game Stop just as it opened, pulled a pistol on the clerk and demanded cash.  The clerk complied and the gunman fled.  The store’s surveillance system captured clear photographs of the suspect’s face.  Those photos were shared with media outlets, resulting in two calls to Crime Stoppers about Dameon Golden.  Investigation by Detective Russ Thompson confirmed that Golden was the same man depicted in the surveillance images.  The aggravated robbery arrest warrant naming Golden was issued this morning.

Convicted Robber & Parolee Charged with West End McDonald's Holdup with Crime Stoppers Tip

          Tips to Crime Stoppers have led to the arrest of convicted armed robber and parolee Timothy Thompson for the April 15th holdup of the McDonald’s Restaurant at 2700 West End Avenue.

          Tipsters were able to identify Thompson as a result of surveillance photographs publicized by the media.

          Thompson was convicted of six counts of aggravated robbery in 1990.  He was paroled in 1999, and while on parole, was convicted of two additional armed robberies committed just months after his release from prison.  His combined sentences totaled 60 years.  Thompson was paroled again last month.

          On Thursday night of last week, Thompson is alleged to have robbed the McDonald’s manager after emerging from the restaurant restroom wearing a mask and carrying a gun.  He fled the area in a taxi cab.

          Thompson is being held in the Metro Jail without bond.

Ernest Hernandez Arrested for Bank Robbery with help from Crime Stoppers Tip

          A tip to Crime Stoppers led to the identification and arrest of 24-year-old Ernest Hernandez for this morning’s robbery of First Tennessee Bank’s 7901 Concord Hills Drive branch in South Nashville.

          A robber wearing a hood over his head, a bandana over his mouth and sunglasses entered the bank at 10:50 a.m. and demanded money.  A teller complied and the robber fled the area in a red SUV.  While following up on the Crime Stoppers tip, officers spotted Hernandez on Tulip Grove Road.  He was taken into custody by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and is being charged federally with bank robbery. 

          Hernandez’s potential connection to other Nashville area bank robberies remains under investigation.



Crime Stoppers Tip identifies Marcus Bender for Shooting on Tulip Grove Road

          With assistance from a tip to Crime Stoppers, Hermitage Precinct detectives today concluded that convicted felon Marcus Bender is the man who fired shots while breaking into the Tulip Grove Road apartment of a 23-year-old woman early Tuesday morning.

          Bender, 25, who is last known to have lived on University Court (Tony Sudekum public housing development), is now named in arrest warrants charging attempted murder, especially aggravated burglary and gun possession by a convicted felon.

          Bender is accused of trying to force his way into the victim’s apartment after she answered his knock.  In the process, at least two shots were fired, one of which grazed the victim’s face.  She was treated and released from a local hospital.  It is not known why this apartment and victim were targeted.

          Bender was convicted of felony reckless endangerment just last December stemming from his arrest for firing shots on University Court.  He received a two-year sentence.

          A tip to Crime Stoppers led to this afternoon’s arrest of Shane Owen, 40, who drove his pickup truck through the front door of Vine Street Wine & Spirits located at 493 Old Hickory Boulevard at 4:30 a.m. last Friday.

          During an interview with South Precinct Detective Phil Klarer, Owen admitted his involvement in the break-in.  After making entry, Owen grabbed several bottles of liquor from the shelves before jumping back in his vehicle and fleeing. 

          Owen, who is homeless, is charged with burglary.  He has previous convictions for assault, evading arrest and theft.  Owen is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
